T 4 BacteriophageDominatesT 7 Bacteriophage During Co - infection of Escherichia coli C 600

چکیده
Co-infection is the simultaneous infection of a host cell by multiple viruses. It can result in complex competitive interactions that have significant consequences on virulence and disease dynamics. Our study investigated the intracellular mechanisms utilized for viral competition and identified a dominant virus during co-infection with a T4 and T7 bacteriophage model in E. coli strain C600. The co-infection was performed under two different input multiplicity of infection (MOI) conditions, each favouring one phage type. The amount of infectious progeny from coinfected samples was assessed with plaque assays. Results indicated that T4 dominated in both conditions, whereas PCR data showed T7 amplification from samples that produced only T4 plaques. We speculate that the dominance exhibited by T4 is due to its ability to modify the host RNA polymerase to only transcribe its own genes, thereby inhibiting T7 early gene transcription. In conclusion, bacteriophage T4 exhibited viral dominance over T7 during co-infection of E. coli C600, via mechanisms that interfered with T7 maturation.

Lytic Activity of Isolated Phage from Milk Against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli
Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpaste...

This study was done with the aim of surveying the amount of susceptibility and resistance among the strains of Escherichia coli isolated from those who referred to the private laboratories in the Iranian city of Tabriz.Materials...
متن کاملEvaluation of Antibiotic Susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp. Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections of Patients Attending a University Hospital in Tehran
Background and Objectives: E. coli and Klebsiella spp. are recognized as most prevalent bacteria causing urinary tract infection (UTI), the most common bacterial infection. Decreasing of antimicrobial susceptibility in urinary pathogens has made difficulty in treatment of UTI. The aim of this study was to determine antibiotic susceptibility of E. coli and Klebsiella spp. isolated from urine of ...

In this study, 90 internal organ samples of poultry with symptoms of colibacillosis were obtained from Maragheh poultry farms in East Azerbaijan, Iran. In total, 70 bacterial isolates were confirmed as Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains using standard biochemical tests, and antibiotic sensitivity was determined by the disk diffusion method. Antibiotics used in this study included ampicillin, pe...

A virulent phage, named PP01, specific for Escherichia coli O157:H7 was isolated from swine stool sample. The phage concentration in a swine stool, estimated by plaque assay on E. coli O157:H7 EDL933, was 4.2U107 plaque-forming units per g sample. PP01 infects strains of E. coli O157:H7 but does not infect E. coli strains of other O-serogroups and K-12 strains. Infection of an E. coli O157:H7 c...
